セルロイド製のHANSに、AKIRA & SONSのオリジナル加工「SUEDE EFFECT」を施しました。

SUEDE EFFECTのきっかけは、ふと立ち寄った馴染みのアパレルショップでした。

いつものように服を見ていて気づいたのは、自分が自然と手に取るものは、少しシワがあったり、ヨレていたり、色ムラがあったり、どこか不揃いなものばかりだということ。

質感も、さらさらしていたり、ざらざらしていたり、ゴワゴワしていたり。
気づけば、綺麗に整いすぎたものから少しずつ手が遠のいていました。

きっとこれが今の自分の気分なんだと思います。

そこで改めてメガネを見てみると、どれも綺麗に磨かれ、均一に仕上げられたものばかり。
洗いざらしのシャツや、履き込んだ靴、ダメージの入ったデニムのような質感を持つメガネはほとんどありません。

だったら作ってみたい。

そこから試行錯誤を重ねて生まれたのが、SUEDE EFFECTです。

イメージしたのは、自分がよく履いているスエードの革靴。
履き込むことで生まれる毛並みや擦れ、少しムラのある柔らかな表情を、メガネのフレームで表現したいと考えました。

ただ、プラスチックだけのフレームにこの加工を施すと、単純に傷んでいるようにも見えてしまう。
そこでHANSのようなコンビネーションフレームに施し、セルロイドの柔らかな質感とシャープなメタルパーツを組み合わせることで、素材のコントラストを作りました。

完成したものは、想像していた以上に良い表情になりました。

SUEDE EFFECTは、その名前の通りスエードをイメージして表面だけに加工を施しています。裏面にはセルロイド本来の艶を残し、表と裏で異なる質感を楽しめるようにしています。

ベーシックなデザインに、少し違った質感を加える。
それだけで、これまでとは違うアイウェアのスタイリングが生まれると思っています。

ベースとなるHANSは、フレンチヴィンテージの定番ともいえるクラウンパントをベースにしたモデル。
一般的なアセテートではなくセルロイドを使用し、細身のラインを保ちながらフロント幅をしっかりと確保しています。

テンプルにはオリジナルのβチタンを採用。ヒンジには耳の高さの違いに対応できるアジャスターヒンジを搭載し、傾斜角の細かな調整も可能です。

鼻まわりにはクリングスタイプのパッドとやや広めのブリッジを組み合わせ、掛ける人の骨格に合わせて細かなフィッティングができる仕様にしています。

製造は福井県鯖江。
デザイン、素材、質感、そして掛けたときのバランスまで考えながら、一本ずつ丁寧に仕上げています。

HANS is made from celluloid and finished with SUEDE EFFECT, an original surface treatment developed by AKIRA & SONS.

The idea for SUEDE EFFECT started when I stopped by a clothing store I often visit.

As I was looking through the clothes, I realized that I was naturally drawn to pieces that were slightly wrinkled, worn, uneven in color, or somehow imperfect.

Some felt smooth, others rough, dry, heavy, or textured. Without really noticing it, I had gradually stopped reaching for things that looked too clean or too perfect.

I realized that this was simply how I wanted things to feel right now.

Then I looked at eyewear and noticed that almost everything was beautifully polished and perfectly finished. There was nothing quite like a washed shirt, a well-worn pair of shoes, or faded and distressed denim.

So I wanted to make something like that.

After a lot of experimentation, SUEDE EFFECT was born.

The inspiration came from the suede shoes I often wear. I wanted to recreate the soft, uneven character that develops through wear—the subtle texture, rubbing, and variation—and bring that feeling to an eyewear frame.

But when the treatment was applied to an all-plastic frame, it could simply look damaged or worn out. That’s why I chose to use it on a combination frame like HANS. By pairing the soft texture of the celluloid with sharp metal components, the contrast between the materials gives the finish a more intentional character.

The result was even better than I had imagined.

As the name suggests, SUEDE EFFECT is applied only to the outer surface, inspired by the character of suede. The inside is left polished, preserving the natural gloss of the celluloid and creating a contrast between the two surfaces.

By adding an unexpected texture to a basic design, I believe it can create a completely different way of styling eyewear.

The HANS is based on the crown panto, a classic shape associated with French vintage eyewear. Rather than conventional acetate, the frame is made from celluloid, with a slim profile and generous overall width.

The temples are made from our original β-titanium construction. Adjustable hinges allow fine adjustments to the frame angle to accommodate differences in ear height.

Adjustable Cling nose pads are combined with a slightly wider bridge, allowing the frame to be precisely fitted to different facial structures.

Made in Sabae, Fukui, Japan. Each frame is carefully finished with attention to design, materials, texture, balance, and fit.
